Providing a comfortable and supportive home away from home for patients and their families traveling for medical care.
Kevin Guest House is America’s first independent healthcare hospitality house. Since 1972 we have provided a comfortable and supportive home-away-from-home for patients and families traveling to receive state of the art health care and treatment in Buffalo. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary July 26, 2022.
Four buildings comprised of six transplant apartments, seven bedrooms, and four suites provide a sanctuary for those in need of affordable accommodations during their medical crises. Nearly 60,000 guests have stayed at Kevin Guest House since its inception. Most guests come from Western and Central New York, but we’ve had guests stay with us from forty-nine states and eleven other countries. Located in the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Kevin Guest House keeps guests and their families close to major hospitals like Buffalo General, Gates Vascular Institute, Oishei Children’s Hospital, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Our transplant recovery apartments are one of a kind here in Buffalo. These fully functional apartments allow blood, marrow, and other transplant patients a safe environment to recover that is within the required distance to their medical facility. In many cases these patients are required to stay within 30 minutes of their medical facility for 100 days or more for monitoring and testing.
Kevin Guest House was founded by Claudia and Cyril Garvey whose son, Kevin Garvey, passed away in January 1972 at the age of thirteen after an eighteen-month fight against leukemia. During his treatment at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital, the Garveys became aware of many other families traveling for their child’s care that were unable to find affordable lodging. Shortly before Kevin’s death, Mr. and Mrs. Garvey purchased the property located at 782 Ellicott Street, formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and with the help of Roswell Park, renovated the house with the support of volunteers and donations from the community. Kevin Guest House welcomed their first guest on July 26, 1972 just six months after Kevin lost his battle.
With the help of our generous community we are able to continue our mission of serving those in need.
The Kevin Guest House campus is comprised of four buildings in the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and can serve guests in these beautifully restored homes in a variety of rooms based on your need and availability. Learn more about Kevin’s story and our history.
